Saturday 13 August 2011
We were sitting on top of Sentinel hill overlooking Dungeons (A famous South African Big wave surf spot), when we saw these little local kids playing down on the beach. In this photo you can see them crossing the sand section to the island.

This is the last photo ever of one of these kids (aged 11) as the ocean decided to close the gap around the island, washing the boy away with her. The kid was gone in a matter of seconds.

Traditional Wedding Invites VS. New School Wedding Invites

OK, right now it’s all about wedding, wedding, wedding, and getting everything ready and done to send out the invites etc.

I was busy designing the invite and while I was busy with it, it dawned on me!  Why the hell am I going to spend a fortune on wedding invites ? (this includes printing costs of both the cards and the envelopes, the buying of the paper and the envelopes, and then paying a fortune to send it across the country.)

All of the above seems pretty stupid during this day and age where most of us spend time on social media and use the internet as a daily routine.  Then it would only seem wise to experiment with  a new approach to wedding invites.

A wedding Blog.  The perks to this being:

1. It’s free. you can send the link to your guests via e-mail or via text message     (thanks to smart phones).

2. Has potential to be  interesting.  A traditional wedding invite is very limited to how much you can do with it, the more you add the more you have to pay.  With a wedding blog you have the potential of thinking out of the box, you can add animated elements etc that would be impossible to do in the traditional method.

Some might argue that there is something special about the format of a traditional wedding invite that is lost in the blog invite.  What? you can still do the traditional card design, and most probably will need to because of (digital incompetence) and by this I mean those of our friends and 120 year old relatives that still struggles to turn on a computer, and yes we do all have them in our midst.  You can even add the invite to your blog, allowing your guests to view it in it’s traditional format.

3.  Detailed. Like in the previous point the traditional method leaves only so much space for info, and the more you add the more you pay.  With the blog version you get to be very specific by creating different pages for specific elements such as Directions to the venue (you can add detailed maps and directions), Accommodation options, Details of the Bachelors etc, Wedding registry and you can even add a RSVP list, where your guests can say if they will be attending your wedding or not.

4.  Wedding Invite Video.  Something that has seen a huge growth in the last couple of years is the use of a wedding invite video, which is very personal and has the potential to be very funky and out there.  Some couples opt to burn these videos to disc and sending them with their invites witch again adds to your wedding budget.  The wedding blog however allows you to add the video as a page on the blog, where you can either link the page to You Tube, or some blogs allow the video to be uploaded directly to the page.  This again is free for the couple getting married and the guests get to view the blog in a venue of their choice.
